A-WAY

9 minute solo

Music: Polar

Costumes: Manuel Vignoulle

Structured improvisation on the theme of illness.

An unfamiliar force which gnaws away at us, shoves us around.

What would be the path to accept and deal with it ?

What trace will be left behind ?

FROM EARTH

7 minute piece for 2 dancers

Music: Trio Jourdan

Costumes: Manuel Vignoulle

Why is it so hard to breathe ? Why do we have to re-learn the first thing we did instinctively when we entered the world ?

The challenge doubles when you then have to share your space with another.

We are connected, linked and codependent, but mustn’t we first find our true independence in order to attain the subtle balance required to coexist and grow together ?

Breathe together or suffocate alone.

Together - Alone

MISERERE

7 minute solo and 5 minute Dance For Film

Music: Pierre Henry and Sylvain Chauveau

Costumes: Manuel Vignoulle

The Mask , illusion or dependence ?

She is her own prisoner, alienated by her own anguish.

She will struggle on her path towards rebirth to catch her breath and gain a fragile freedom.

18 minute piece for 6 dancers from Ballet du Grand Theatre de Geneve

created on Ballet du Grand Theatre de Geneve’s dancers

Music: Miss Kittin, Trentemoller and Charles Mugel

Costumes: Manuel Vignoulle

3 women, 3 worlds:

One has created a virtual world of which she is the heroine.

Another seeks intoxication, in search of short-lived moments of happiness.

To forget in order to reinvent herself.

The last dreams of experiencing sex and orgasm freely without the burden of judgement.

URBAN EVIDENCE

8 minute solo

Music: Telefon Tel Aviv

Costumes: Manuel Vignoulle

Time is running out. Actions are calculated. Hope is exhausted.

The puppet is dismantled; the machine short-circuited. The race is turned around.

Shared moments. Honesty. Overwhelming hope.

To each their own truth.

"In this splendid sensual duet, Manuel redraws its version of a couple magnetized in the sharing: a perpetual re-conquest of the other, danced on operatic arias."

IN A BOX

13 minute piece for 2 dancers

Music: Arvö Part

Costumes: Manuel Vignoulle

One person, feeling stuck in a box, opens up and lets another share her space.

Together, their own boxes get bigger and bigger, until they feel no more boxes, no more boundaries.

Just space… between, and around them. Enough space, for any possibilities. Space as Freedom.

Music: Ty Burho, Nathan Halpern, Dustin O’Halloran, Piano Interrupted, Pimmon, Roll The Dice

The path is long , full of unexpected things/events. We start where we are but never know where we go. Sometimes we go with the flow, sometimes we hold back, resisting. We start with who we are now and wonder who we will become. The ripple effect of each individual personality creates constant shifts and whims in the group that is in endless evolution, transformation, mutation, renewal, flow.

WALLS ARE HERE TO FALL

created for Satellite Collective

Music: Nick Jaina

Written on the Berlin Wall, these words remind us to avoid any separation and isolation between human beings. Through fear we create walls that we call "home" but in reality, they are walls of our imprisonment. Internally, they are defense mechanisms born from hurt and resentment. These walls need to fall.

2 chairs, 2 fortresses, 2 empires, 2 microcosms which reign in tyranny.

SHIFTING SHADOW

11 minute piece for 2 dancers

Music: Alva Noto

Costumes: A.Christina Giannini

Inspired by a man scared by his own reflection and shadow, this piece explores the truth behind

the illusion of the self and its multi-dimensional shadows that project both on the self and others.

“An excellent work, both Mr. Vignoulle and Mr. Perez are superb dancers that made the piece vibrate with both emotion and intellect.”

“The magical contemporary dance was demonstrated by French dancers, isaies Santamaria and manuel Vignoulle. Shifting Shadow was technically complex and athletically riveting, highlighted with opposing elements of balance and askewness. The work was given a standing ovation from its audience.”

CELEBRATION

7 minute piece for 2 dancers

Music: Laya Project

Costumes: Manuel Vignoulle

In A Box was choreographed and performed by Manuel Vignoulle and featured Manon parent. This piece was “best in show”... There was great unison of choreography, a beautiful connection between the two, and admirable control choreographed into the movement and heightened the energy of the piece...great quality of movement of fluidity with moments of sharp, jagged motions...in all honesty, Vignoulle’s In A Box stole the show. I felt like crying, smiling and dancing when the piece ended. A job well-done.”

My pointe Taken: Dance Reviews from A Dancer

“Vignoulle’s edgy and ambitious In A Box was one of the festival’s highlights...They were some interesting and original canons in this piece, along with a few towering lifts witch were resolved with dramatic falls. Vignoulle took risks with this piece and they paid off.”

TOGETHER WE STAND

19 minute piece for 5 dancers

Lighting: Amanda Ringger

Costumes: Cindy Capraro

Music: Hugues De Courson, Manuel Vignoulle

Warriors know that the group is always stronger, more impressive, more powerful than isolated individuals. As a unique and indispensable extension of the others, no one can be left aside. If one falls, they all as a tribe, fall. In this state of emergency, to avoid losing a part of themselves, whatever happens, together they stand.

“Energetic and testosterone fueled work for five men...Together We Stand explores the camaraderie between those brought together by violence, as well as study of the manner we as individual relate to one another during crisis. Mr Vignoulle is also making a strong statement about violence in media and the exposure to the ready availability of violent subject matter... It is an exciting and engaging work.”

OFFOFFOFF Dance

http://www.offoffoff.com/dance/2015/dancegallery2015.php

“...powerful, breathtaking duet choreographed by Manuel Vignoulle for himself and Rena Butler. Black and White juxtaposes two topless dancers of contrasting skin tones in a symbiotic relationship, inseparable and entwined. Like strands of DNA wrapping and unwrapping around each other, their duet unfolds with a fluidity that is aquiline and a force that is driving and earthy. Their movements have a primal, sexless quality, tribal and grounded, and their partnering showcases both the deep strength and divine grace of the human body. Eschewing gender stereotypes, both dancers show equal mastery of physical strength and effortless grace, traveling between the masculine and feminine stereotypes naturally. Like a moving yin and yang symbol, their duet speaks of unity and the commonality of what it means to be human; what makes us all the same rather than what is obviously different. There truly is nothing more beautiful than the human body in motion. Especially bodies at the top of their form, stripped down to their unabashed gorgeousness – beautiful not by outer standards, (although they were this as well) but by inherent standards all their own, asking audiences to see not what is obvious to the eye, but what can only be seen with the soul.

Love is a game of illusion and disillusion. We bet. Sometimes we win. Everything seems so new, energizing, and full of possibilities. Sometimes we lose. We end up feeling needy and abandoned.

So much drama...A big masquerade? But addicted, we cannot stop playing, hoping the next one will be “The One”!

TWINE

5:30 minute piece for a dancer and a musician

created on Periapsis Music & dance

Music: Jonathan Katz

Lightning: Tuce yasak

Costumes: Manuel Vignoulle

“...conversational and sculptural in nature... yet completely unique to Vignoulle’s vision, Twine plays with the music, speaks to it, in lush suspensions and ultra quick, cat-like movements. The fluid quality of both the music and the dance is especially pleasing, the quarter notes in the music mirroring the aquiline choreography... Vignoulle’s choreography has a very visceral, primal and animalistic feel to it, deeply pleasing to watch, and his musicality is easy and natural. The final image of the piece... hasn’t left my mind.”
